With more than 8 thousand km of coastline,it's not easy to choose a beach in Brazil, however one beach that stands out this summer is Jericoacoara, which is located on the north coast in the state of Ceará.

Jeri, as it is affectionately called by its inhabitants, lays at approx 2º 50´ South of the Equator. This position gives stable weather conditions. The climate is dry and the temperature ranges between 25º - 31ºC all through the year. The sea water is always worm and its colours vary from emerald-green to blue. The place bears the benefit of the Trade Winds, which constantly blow from July to December making its beach one of the most sought for the practice of windsurf and kiting in the whole world.
Jericoacoara has also the privilege of being situated inside the homonymous National Park, an untouched environmental protected area of endless beaches, dunes and of the "Serrote" a 93 m hill on whose base one meets two huge and famous rocks, the Pedra Furada and Pedra do Frade. Long way back the region was the homeland of the Caeté Indians known as "the friends of the Wind". In the 17th Century, Jericoacoara was the stage of harsh disputes between the Portuguese, Dutch, French colonizers and the Tremembé Indians.
The first Jeri´s dwellers of our era were people from the backland of Ceará who fled from a terrible drought and who around 1890 decided to halt here turning themselves into fishermen.

The geographical characteristics of Jeri and Prea provides everything you need to practice, learn as well as compete in all of these modalities. Competitions of windsurf, kitesurf are periodically made in Jeri by the best organizations of Brazil and of the world.
One of the most important icons of Jeri is Pedra Furada, rocky formation carved by the sea for thousands of years. An interesting point of Pedra Furada is the trail that leads you to it and the magic energy you feel in the air. For the most mistic, Pedra Furada has a different energy to other places. To guarantee the preservation of the region, The National Park of Jericoacoara acquired 400 hectares, totalizing 8,850 hectares, including, as well, the Manguezal Rio Guriú, area of the seahorses, also some permanent dunes and zones covered by native vegetation. The conservation of the region is what makes of Jericoacoara a unique place. Jericoacoara is located at 313km from Fortaleza (capital of the State of Ceara), with access by the National Routes 222 and 402, and state routes 085, 422, 354, 402 and 179.
